/ 02 — Why it is private

Privacy by architecture, not by promise

Most “free online converters” upload your file to a server you cannot inspect. Tool Lab has no upload endpoint at all — there is nothing to leak, because there is nothing to receive.

Typical online converter Server-side

Your file→Upload→Third-party server→Temp storage→Download
  • × Your document sits on someone else’s disk, even if only briefly
  • × Upload and queue time scales with your file size
  • × Free tiers cap file size, page count or daily usage
  • × Watermarks and paywalled “Pro” features
  • × Retention policy is a paragraph you have to trust

Tool Lab In-browser

  • ✓ Files are read with the JavaScript File API and never transmitted
  • ✓ Processing speed depends only on your own device
  • ✓ Size and quantity limited only by your browser memory
  • ✓ No watermark, no account, no paid tier

/ 03 — How it works

Three steps, roughly five seconds

No tutorial, no onboarding, no settings screen. Every tool follows the same drag-and-drop pattern.

Open the tool

Click any tool above. The page loads its logic once, then works even if your connection drops.

Drop your file

Drag a file in or pick it from your device. It is loaded into the tab’s memory, not sent anywhere.

Download the result

Save the output and close the tab. The browser releases the memory and nothing remains.

/ 04 — Questions

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Tool Lab processes every file entirely inside your browser using the JavaScript File API. There is no upload endpoint and no cloud storage behind these tools, so your documents never leave your device. You can confirm this by opening your browser’s developer tools and watching the network tab while you use any tool.

Where is my file stored after processing?

Only in the memory of the browser tab you are using, and only while that tab is open. The downloaded output is saved to your own device by your browser. Once you close or refresh the tab, the browser releases that memory and nothing is retained.

Do I need an account, and is there a file size limit?

No account, no email, no sign-up. Because processing is local, there is no server-side quota either — file size and batch quantity are limited only by the memory your browser allocates to the tab, which is typically several gigabytes on a modern desktop.

Is Tool Lab really free, and how does it stay free?

Yes, every tool is fully free with no watermark and no paid tier. Running no file servers means near-zero marginal cost per user, which is exactly what makes permanent free access sustainable.

Do the tools work offline?

Mostly. The core logic is embedded in the page script, so once a tool has loaded it keeps working without a connection. A few features that pull in external code libraries at runtime will need the network on first load.

What tools are coming next?

Tool Lab is built as an expandable directory rather than a single-category site. Image, PDF and HTML tools are live today, with video and text/data utilities planned. New tools are prioritised by what visitors actually request.
